Mountain Language

Mountain Language is a silent film of two drummers in a vast desert landscape, finding rhythm, pushing energy, and establishing time. Commissioned by the California Natural Resources Agency(CNRA) for their Sacramento Headquarters, and permanently installed on a 32′ x 24′ digital screen.

Filmed at dawn on the traditional territory and homelands of the Cahuilla people. The film site is outside the town of Bonnie Bell, CA at the Whitewater Preserve. The land was acquired through the Coachella Mountain Valley Conservancy (a part of the CNRA) and is now managed by the Wildlands Conservancy.

Drummers: Tina Raymon and Sheldon Reed
