A Paradise Choir at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

July 2 – 24 // Saturdays and Sundays
a set of 200 robes, workshops, concerts, sonic scenarios, and group experiences for robe-clad museum goers. Architectural tours given by amateur choirs, workshops that bridge primal scream therapy with spatial acoustics, and works that help us to better understand the aural architecture of SFMOMA’s new building designed by Snohetta. Paradise is architectural and Choirs are super rad. Details forthcoming on the SFMOMA site. To prepare for the project up north, I’m giving a couple casual, blissed, messy workshops at Machine Project in Los Angeles.

How to be a Choir
June 14 at 8pm

Do you ever dream of giving up your hard-won-individuality for becoming an anonymous member of a communal together group? Do you look for chances to make beautiful mouth-noises in perfect synchronization with lovely people? Do you hope to extend your meditation practice into the sonic? Join Chris Kallmyer Tuesday, June 14th at 8pm, for a 50-minute workshop on group singing for voices of all skill levels. There will be matching outfits, beer, and singing – no prior experience necessary!

Shallow Listening
June 21 at 8pm

Inspired by Pauline Oliveros’ consciousness-raising Deep Listening Practice, Shallow Listening Practice is specifically designed for those interested in doing less work, quickly. In this 50 minute immersive sound experience, participants will experiment with sound making and sound receiving with household objects, and ascend to a shallow level of consciousness. There will be robes.
